The Four T’s of static trapeze!

Sara Sparrow

This workshop is not being offered this session.

Cost is $40 per workshop, $140 for all 4

Sara Sparrow will be offering four trapeze workshops this fall, emphasizing four distinct elements of developing a well-rounded trapeze act.  These classes will be for intermediate to advanced students, who have an understanding of beats, a familiarity and comfortability with the trapeze bar, and an eagerness to learn new and different ways of doing things.  Ideally, students are comfortable with meathooks and pullovers, front and back balance, and single knee hangs, but we can talk about your individual abilities and decide if a class will work for you.  Classes will also emphasize splits and flexibility–essential skills for an aerialist.   The four T’s are:

Tempo: Sept 25. Momentum and tempo are some of the most important movement principles to harness in trapeze work.  Good timing and tempo is essential for smooth transitions on and off the bar, and for creating the building blocks of harder tricks.  Why muscle through something, when you can use physics?  Class will focus on a variety of beats, using momentum to eliminate sloppy transitions, and facilitate smoother movement into hard poses and tricks.  The ‘Tempo’ workshop is highly recommended if you wish to take October’s ‘Tricks’ workshop.
Twisting: Oct 2. In this workshop we’ll explore twisting sequences, and the tools to develop them.  Good, unique twisting choreography can make your act stand out form everyone else. Learn a few of my ideas, and then discover ways to invent them for yourself.
Transitions: Oct 9. Moving smoothly and creatively between tricks and poses is the most difficult part of creating an act.  In this workshop, we’ll explore different ways to transition that don’t always bring you back to a seated position on the bar, we’ll employ tempo to more more easily from below to above bar movement, and we’ll play some games that get you thinking about where to go next with your sequence.
Tricks: Oct 16. Trick-stravaganza!  We’ll work on different ways to drop to ankles, a variety of release moves and more.  I strongly recommend the ‘Tempo’ class prior to taking this one, and most ‘hard’ tricks require an understanding of tempo and momentum.  Please bring ankle protection to this class, there’s no shame in preserving your ankle skin…
About Sara: Sara Sparrow came to modern circus through a background as a gymnast, thespian, musician, and visual artist.  She currently is most at home in Olympia, and was most recently seen in Seattle at Teatro ZinZanni’s ‘Zirkus Fantazmo’.   Sara has performed and collaborated with Levity, the Tallhouse Arts Consortium, Ricochet, and the Aerialistas.
