Other Classes

Although the primary focus at Versatile Arts is aerial training, we do make room in our schedule for classes in other disciplines from time to time. Some of these classes are not a part of the V.A. Curriculum, but we are excited to be able to provide a space for them. (VA classes will have a big Register button; for the others, use the provided contact info to register with the instructor.)

Our resident geniuses have the following specialty classes to offer us this session:
 

Injury Prevention Drop-In

Mondays from 6:00 – 7:30 PM, taught by Lauren in the Chapel

This class will explore a variety of modalities and concepts in injury prevention and self care with goal of providing attendees with specific ways to approach and support their training and goals. We will discuss concepts around different types of training, anatomy and range of motion, as well as learn exercises and discuss how to integrate them into your training regimen. Topics will vary from week to week but will certainly include: all about shoulders!, What about hips?, Your spine and mine, Functional Range Conditioning, stability/mobility- what does it mean?, and many more! Bring your questions, and topic requests are encouraged; you are welcome to email Lauren ahead of time to see what’s planned or to make a request.

Tuition: $26 per class
Prerequisites: None

 

Beginning Handstands

Tuesdays from 8:45 – 10:00 AM, taught by Jill in the Ballroom.
Tuesdays from 6:00 – 7:15 PM, taught by PJ and Jill in the Chapel.

Learn the fundamentals of a well-aligned handstand, improve your technique, and challenge yourself with variations on the basics. Open to beginners who can kick up against the wall.

Tuition: $176 ($10 late fee in effect August 28th)
Prerequisites: Able to kick up into a handstand against the wall.

All Levels Handstands

Wednesdays from 6:00 – 7:15 PM, taught by Gunnar in the Ballroom.

Learn the fundamentals of a well-aligned handstand, improve your technique, and challenge yourself with variations on the basics. Open to beginners who can balance against the wall as well as regular practitioners looking to take their handstands to the next level. There’s room for growth for everyone!

Tuition: $176 ($10 late fee in effect August 28th)

 

Intermediate Handstands

Fridays from 10:00 – 11:30 AM, taught by Jill in the Ballroom.
Saturdays from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM, taught by Gunnar in the Ballroom.

Improve your technique, and challenge yourself with variations on the basics. Open to regular practitioners looking to take their handstands to the next level. There’s room for growth for everyone!

Tuition: $208 ($10 late fee in effect August 28th)
Prerequisites: Able to hold a handstand mid-room for 5 seconds. Spot on kick up is acceptable.

Ground Choreography 101

Thursdays from 10:00 – 11:30 AM, taught by Jill in the Ballroom.

Have you dreamed of creating ground choreography for an act but didn’t know where to start? We will begin each class with guided improvisations and games, then dive into tricks and tools for generating original movement phrases. Each week builds on the previous one, leading up to creating your own “mini solo” to be presented in an informal showing on the last day of class, so regular attendance is important! This class is a prerequisite to Ground Choreo 102: Floor to Air which will be offered next session.

Cost: $208 ($10 late fee in effect August 28th)
Prerequisite: None!

 

Ground Choreography for Aerialists

This class is not being offered this session.

Have you wanted to create ground choreography for an act but didn’t know where to start? In this class, we will learn tricks and tools for generating original movement phrases, transitioning from ground to apparatus, and building choreography that enhances what you do in the air. No dance experience needed.


Prerequisite: You must meet the Beginner Skills graduation requirements to join this class.

Prerequisites: Ability to kick up into a handstand against the wall and a strong desire to learn.

 

All Levels Handstands Drop-In

This class is not being offered this session.

Learn the fundamentals of a well-aligned handstand, improve your technique, and challenge yourself with variations on the basics. Open to beginners who can balance against the wall as well as regular practitioners looking to take their handstands to the next level. There’s room for growth for everyone!

While this is a drop-in class, you must pre-register for each class you wish to attend so that we may be sure to have an appropriate number of instructors each week. Registration cut-off is 3 hours before class.  If you register but do not cancel more than 3 hours in advance, you will still be charged.  You may show up at class without pre-registering, but you will pay an extra $5 drop-in fee.


Prerequisites: Able to kick up into and hold a handstand against the wall.

 

Circus Acro FUNdamentals

This class is not being offered this session.

Acro. Four letters, many meanings. This is an entry level acro class that will focus on conditioning, proper technique, and offer suggestions for a safe practice that will last a lifetime. We will practice L-basing, Adagio, Sport Akrobatik, and Acrobatic Dance. Come prepared to have fun, be safe, and work hard. Remember, “In circus we don’t practice until we get it right, we practice until we cannot get it wrong.”
Orville Zharoff has been teaching circus arts for the last 4.5 years in South Seattle. He is currently an acro practitioner of 5 years, has been in 3 Swing Dance performance troupes, 2 Ballroom Dance teams, and has been partner dancing for over 12 years. Currently, Orville, performs private events and can be found most sunny days playing acro and tumbling in the grass around the Seattle area; he also likes pina coladas and getting caught in the rain.

Prerequisites: none.

Pilates Mat Class

This class is not currently being offered.

Come explore learning specific muscle control & skeletal articulation while finding length in your limbs and stability in your joints. Enhance your aerial practice by connecting to your core & balancing out your muscles, all while increasing your mind/body connection & your range of movement.

These classes are “drop in”, no need to pre-register.
