Duo Hoop Exploration
Sunday, December 29, 2019 from 2:15 - 4 pm in the Cathedral • Cost: 60
Description: Join Jody and Julia of Duo Lumeria in developing fun and fluid phrases on hoop with a partner. We will experiment with various mounts on hoop, working with momentum of a spin/timing of another body, and flowing in and out of shapes that are unique to duo work.
No partner required, but if you want to bring a friend or cohort, you are welcome to partner with them throughout the workshop. Since we will be working a bit with spinning, it is encouraged that you have some degree of spin tolerance and can strongly invert and mount the hoop in a myriad of ways.
Prerequisites: Intermediate lyra or trapeze; or by instructor approval (ability to invert and mount the apparatus while in motion; some degree of spin tolerance)
About the coaches: Jody has been doing aerials throughout the Seattle area for over 9 years, and currently teaches level 2 lyra at Versatile Arts. Notably, she won a prize with her former partner Kirra Lien (as HoopDuality) at the Newcomer Show at Krystalpalast Theatre in Leipzig, Germany in 2017. Jody’s duo work expands beyond hoop; with exploration in duo sling, duo straps and 3 years of duo trapeze and group work on hammock and fabric. Julia, a professional ballet dancer, transferred her artistry and skills to the aerial world many years ago. She teaches at Emerald City Trapeze Arts, and now at Les Ailes du Désir in Miami, FL. She currently performs there with Quixotic Fusion and various other entertainment companies. Additionally, her duo experience involves teaching and performing double slings. We encourage you to catch this workshop while you can, seeing as Jody and Julia are leaving on contract in February 2020, bringing their duo act overseas for Cirque du Soleil at Sea aboard the MSC Bellisima!
